SCE&G Ranks First in National Survey of Large Industrial Customers

Columbia, S.C., July 21, 2003 - South Carolina Electric & Gas, principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE:SCG) has been selected as the nation's best utility for overall customer satisfaction in a recent national survey of large electric customers.

Although specific results of individual categories have not yet been issued, overall scores for customer satisfaction have been finalized and SCE&G ranked first at 89.8 percent. The ratings are provided through the 10th annual TQS national benchmark survey of the 60 largest utilities in the U.S. Other Southeastern utilities of note ranking in the top 10 include: Southern Co. at No. 2; Florida P&L at No. 5; Duke Power at No. 6; and Progress Energy at No. 8. SCE&G has ranked in the Top 5 of the survey for the past five years.

"To be ranked as the top utility in the country in a survey that looks at all facets of customer service is truly an honor for our company," said George Bullwinkel, SCANA senior vice president. "The results are indicative of our company's day-to-day commitment to customer service.

Joe Ellis, president of TQS Research, said approximately 7,000 accounts were interviewed across the country, including 118 of SCE&G's largest customers. According to Ellis, "SCE&G ranks very high in our survey year in and year out. However, they are never satisfied with their results and strive to be No. 1. As a result, they have improved their numerical scores every year for the past four years. I believe that's a testament to the excellent job they do listening to their largest customers and then implementing individual plans to address their specific needs and concerns."
