October 30, 2003, Columbia, SC, - South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE:SCG), announced today that it sold, in a negotiated offering, $250 million principal amount of its First Mortgage Bonds, 5.25 percent Series due November 1, 2018. The 15-year bonds were priced to SCE&G at 99.004 percent. The bonds are initially being offered to the public at 99.754 percent to yield 5.274 percent to maturity. Wachovia Capital Markets, LLC, Banc of America Securities LLC and BNY Capital Markets, Inc. acted as joint book-running managers for the transaction.
It is anticipated that the bonds will be issued on November 6, 2003. Closing of the transaction is subject to normal closing conditions.
SCE&G will use the net proceeds from the sale of these new bonds to redeem SCE&G's $100 million principal amount of First Mortgage Bonds, 6.25 percent Series due December 15, 2003, for repayment of short-term debt and for general corporate purposes.
