Columbia, SC, July 21, 2006 -- SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG) announced today that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), in an order issued on July 20, 2006, approved the merger of SCG Pipeline, Inc. into South Carolina Pipeline Corporation. This merger of the Company’s two wholly-owned natural gas transmission subsidiaries to form Carolina Gas Transmission Corporation is expected to be effective by October 1, 2006.
South Carolina Pipeline is an intrastate pipeline company that purchases, transports and sells natural gas to distribution companies, municipalities and industrial customers through an extensive pipeline system in South Carolina. SCG Pipeline is an interstate pipeline that transports natural gas in Georgia and South Carolina. Carolina Gas Transmission Corporation will operate as an open access, interstate pipeline company that provides only transportation services rather than bundled services, and its operations and rates will be subject to FERC regulation.
“We are pleased that the FERC approved our application to merge these two companies into a single interstate natural gas transportation company,” said Paul Fant, president and chief operating officer of South Carolina Pipeline and SCG Pipeline. “We believe the combination of these companies will give our customers increased control and flexibility over their natural gas supply options while helping to stabilize future earnings and broaden opportunities for growth in this segment of our business.”
Sam Dozier, vice president of commercial and field operations for South Carolina Pipeline, said, “We want to thank our customers for working with us to reach a settlement prior to filing the application with the FERC. We also respect and appreciate very much the dedication of the FERC and its staff as demonstrated by their expedited review of the application that will allow us to begin the operations of the new company prior to the upcoming winter heating season.”
