COLUMBIA, S.C., June 16, 2008...South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG), reported that the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station has returned to service following the plant's 17th refueling and maintenance outage. The 966-megawatt plant, which is located in Jenkinsville, South Carolina, completed the outage and returned to service June 14.

V. C. Summer is jointly owned by SCE&G and the South Carolina Public Service Authority, a state-owned utility that is also known as Santee Cooper. SCE&G is the plant operator. During the refueling outage, approximately one-third of Summer Station's 157 fuel assemblies were replaced, and scheduled maintenance work that cannot be performed when the plant is in operation was conducted.

“This has been a successful outage on many levels,” said Jeff Archie, vice president of Nuclear Operations for SCE&G. “Not only did we complete it safely, we also addressed several maintenance opportunities that will enhance the station’s reliability over the next operating cycle. The commitment of our staff was exceptional, and I am proud of their teamwork and dedication to getting the job done.”
