SCE&G Places Unit 2 Containment Vessel Bottom Head 

SCE&G placed the 900 ton Containment Vessel Bottom Head (CVBH) for Unit 2 using the Heavy Lift Derrick

SCE&G placed the containment vessel bottom head (CVBH) in the Unit 2 nuclear island on May 22, 2013. The CVBH weighs about 900 tons and is composed of 62 steel plates welded together. The entire containment vessel, which will house the reactor, is assembled in five sections: the bottom head, three rings, and the top head. When complete, the containment vessel will weigh about 4,000 tons and stand more than 200 feet tall with a 130-foot diameter.
