Columbia, SC, Aug. 29, 2006 – South Carolina Electric & Gas Company today declared Storm Alert Condition 3 of its emergency storm procedures in preparation for possible service interruptions that may result from Tropical Storm Ernesto. Current projections suggest the storm could make landfall around Charleston by Thursday afternoon.
Condition 3 means that destructive winds and storm related damage could affect SCE&G’s service area within the next 48 hours. Company crews and support personnel are on alert to be dispatched once the path of the storm is more definite. SCE&G has communicated with contract crews who might assist in required overhead and underground line work and tree trimming. The company has also made courtesy calls to discuss mutual assistance services with neighboring electric utilities.
“We are taking every precaution to have equipment, material and personnel in place to deal with any service interruptions,” said Stacy Shuler, SCE&G’s emergency response coordinator.
