Atlanta, GA, Sept 18, 2006 – SCANA Energy will celebrate its new homework center at Powers Ferry Elementary School with a grand opening on Monday, September 25.
The celebration will be held at the school on 403 Powers Ferry Road in Marietta from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The event will include The Chattahoochee Nature Center’s presentation of Hunters In The Sky (HITS), an educational program featuring a naturalist using props and activities as well as large raptors to teach students about native predators.
The Powers Ferry Elementary Homework Center operates from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. The center serves 40 second, fourth, and fifth-grade students. “We are excited to partner with SCANA Energy for this enriching after-school program,” says Dr. Joan Mills, principal of Powers Ferry.
SCANA Energy Homework Centers provide a safe and structured study environment where students can complete their class assignments and learn proper study skills. Each homework center operates with two certified teachers who are responsible for the total management of the program. SCANA Energy provides funds for the teachers, an assistant, snacks, and student incentives. Additional Georgia Homework Centers include elementary schools in Augusta, Decatur, East Point, Mableton, Macon, Rome, and Savannah.
