COLUMBIA, S.C. January 5, 2007 – Whether the New Year's resolution is to cut down on clutter, be more organized, or spend more time with family and less with a checkbook, South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. (SCE&G) can help customers do it all with paperless billing.

Paperless billing allows SCE&G customers to eliminate paper waste, get organized with online account management tools so they never miss a payment, and save time by reducing efforts put into filing bills, writing checks and addressing envelopes. Customers who opt for paperless billing receive notification of their bill by email and can easily make payments online.

"Online account access allows our customers to spend less time on tasks like paying bills so they can spend more time doing what’s really important to them," said Tara Bianco, director of integrated marketing and digital media for SCE&G. "We want our customers to have flexible options, to ensure that their interactions with us are more customized to their lifestyle and budget needs."

SCE&G offers several options for setting up paperless billing and online payments at their secure Web site, www.sceg.com, including:

  • Bill notification and a bill reminder on the business day prior to due date 
  • Payments accepted from multiple accounts for multiple amounts 
  • Automatic draft payments on a customer-determined recurring day each month 
  • Constant access to 24 months of past bills and payment history (just as they appear in print form) at www.sceg.com.
While logged in using a secure username and password, SCE&G's other helpful account management tools are just a click away. Eligible customers can enroll in the Easy Payment Plan (EPP), which allows them to make 12 equal payments during one year, eliminating higher bills during peak season, and use the Energy Analyzer to review their consumption and rates.

Depending upon their preference, customers can choose to pay bills through their own bank's site instead of through the SCE&G Web site. And, with SCE&G's online payment, customers can schedule payments in smaller increments until their bill is due if it's a little easier on their budget.
