Cayce, S.C. (April 15, 2014) – Today employees from SCE&G, the Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center, local elected officials and Midlands senior citizens, gathered for the unveiling of the newly renovated kitchen at the Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center.

SCE&G and the Brookland Center for Community Economic Change partnered together to renovate the kitchen, which will be the hub of the Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center and used to prepare meals for local senior citizens. The Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center is a major initiative of the Brookland Center for Community Economic Change, a non-profit organization with the mission of mobilizing support of health, education and economics to improve the quality of life for the citizens of the surrounding areas. The center is the former Lakeview/Northside School facility and is comprised of approximately 84,000 square feet, including a gymnasium and football field that is open to the entire community.

More than 30 SCE&G employees worked to completely rebuild the kitchen by adding a new roof, upgrading the electrical and plumbing work, replacing windows and stocking it with brand new professional-grade appliances.

“This partnership with SCE&G affords us a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of the people in the neighborhood and community and transform lives for the good of all,” said Rev. Dr. Charles Jackson, Sr.

The kitchen will be used to serve senior citizens living in the surrounding communities who utilize the center for its daily programs, recreational activities and services. During the dedication event, SCE&G’s President of Retails Operations Keller Kissam made remarks.

“Serving our communities is one of SCE&G’s core values,” said Keller Kissam, SCE&G’s president of retail operations. “We were pleased to collaborate with the Brookland Lakeview Empowerment Center to help fulfill its mission of improving the quality of life for seniors and youth in the community.”
